We Truly Have Something Special
"The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude about the problem" - Captain Jack Sparrow
I stumbled across a Tourism Australia campaign through my social site and it got me thinking... These campaigns are always on purpose to bring visitors to our country, and they really do a fantastic job. They see what is lacking in a person's life and what would be the essence of their trip - and that is the emotion of acceptance, connections, fun, adventure and joy. They recognise that the world getting lonelier through innovation; people stay more indoors with the little time they have to socialise, they connect more through texting on social sites rather than socially meeting or talking on a phone. Many people do not even say hello to their neighbours or people in their building where they live. In Cities, the fear of talking to another could have you captured into a sales conversation, giving to a cause or helping a homeless person out, taking away your time or your money. You see, our world is the creation of everyone trying to level up and take advantage of opportunities out there and the general public know and feel it - they are wary. This campaign brought me back to how lucky we are in Australia. We do have the iconic stereotypical view that we are a friendly bunch, and mostly everyone would be in the non-confronting situation. Our tones in the way we speak also elevate our words that exude goodwill and cheer. Our media is not dragging down our vibe by all the worries and concerns being advertised every second between shows to drum up pharmaceutical profits and lawyer salaries. If your last trip abroad was filled with daily greetings, familiar connections, all the adventure you were up for and feeling like you mattered, I think you'd rate that trip fairly highly over others... we did just that! I recently came back from a trip to America and was pleasantly surprised by how well tipping has worked in creating great customer service everywhere we went. You see, people went over and above to be pleasant and helpful. We felt happy to be welcomed and also felt a bit significant that another would want to help us out. However, this wonderful experience also had a downside where it cost us approximately $4-$10AUD per interaction. To think that in Australia where there is no gratuity tipping system, in most places I go, we can have the same experience naturally without the dread of paying for it too. Don't get me wrong, there are still businesses out there where their skills are lacking or they have served for too long without much return to themselves. They are tired, not doing what matters to them and they are just fed up feeling trapped in their investment. Yes, they become grumpy and lacking any care. But for the majority of businesses trying to get their market share, we are slap-dang in the phase of being more personable - getting in contact with our databases and listening to the views of our members, we are trying to create the family feeling of belonging and being their go-to people for their needs. Evolving on the cusp is now the transformational age where customers are demanding more. They want the answers to their problems, the fix to their fault, they want to feel new to their old. And for us in business, this is our opportunity to step up again and deliver.
Here is the new Tourism Australia marketing campaign, I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. It is true, we do say 'Gidday' quite a bit, we love people and their stories, we have big spaces to play and frolic. Imagine if your business could create your people to feel your brand, what could this be for your business?
